Fullerton Arboretum

A few weekends ago, Matt and I decided to take a walk around our local arboretum. I used to go there ALL the time when I was a kid! What I didn't realize was that a lot had changed since then. The park was more full with more "climates" and species of plants! I've been back with my friends too. It's absolutely gorgeous! DSCN5927 DSCN5924 DSCN5932 Maybe we will get married here? We shall see. <3 Cass

Florals

DSCN5892 DSCN5893 DSCN5894 DSCN5895 These roses were growing in my backyard a few weeks ago and I decided to snap a few pictures. I'm finding myself with more free time lately so I hope that means more blogging. <3 Cassie

Date Night Hair

Hello! I finally have time to blog! It is SUPER great to have free time. I'm loving it! So, I went out with Matt last night and wanted to do my hair real quick. DSCN5879 DSCN5891 I got this effect by curling my hair the same way (clip down) all the way around my head. I didn't wrap my hair around the curling iron this time, I used the clip. It is a one inch conair curling iron I got for ten bucks at target. Then after I was done curling I blasted my whole head with my blowdryer on cold air. (I've heard this holds the style). After that I brushed out my hair using my normal hair brush and teased the top a little. I added some glossing cream to control the fly-aways. I liked the style but I think wrapping my hair around the iron gives me more volume towards the the top of my head. But it was good to try this. =) DSCN5882 This is just a shot of my new gold colored tunnels and my new gold chain necklace. I found it at For Love 21 and I loooove it! <3 Cassie

Strong is the New Skinny

Hey there! So I finally had an epiphany about my health situation the other night. I was at Benihana's with the family for a birthday dinner (nearly everyone I know was born in May!). I headed to the bathroom and noticed my arms looked weird. It was as if the natural elasticity of my skin was starting to give, like my arms were not meant to hold that much fat. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not overweight and I don't believe young girls should be too worried about their weight. I think the focus should be on health. However I have NOT been healthy in the least lately! I was eating to the point of uncomfortable fullness and then just sitting in my room watching various shows. Some of my habits I don't want to give up, but if sitting watching online TV is something I love to do, I need to get off my tushy and workout so I can feel good when I do go out! So I developed a plan. THE WORKOUT: DSCN5871 It looks innocent enough, but in about 20 min you will feel like this... DSCN5868 But then, when you've realized what a beast you are, you will feel more like this... DSCN5874 I also lifted some weights to take care of my arm issue. My new motto is "Strong is the New Skinny". The goal isn't to look a certain way for everyone around me, but to feel powerful and in control of my body and health. I've also been eating lots more fruits and veggies and have been cutting back on meat and dairy. Maybe I'll even feel confident to put up some bikini pictures eventually! =) What gets you moving? <3 Cass

Photo Opps

Broke ANOTHER re-usable cup (are they called tumblers?) so after talking to a man in front of me in a Starbucks line, I bought the double insulated Starbucks grande sized tumbler (I'm just going with that name.. it sounds correct). So far so good. The cup is thick enough to withstand my on the go lifestyle so far, but then its only been 2 days. DSCN5782 Getting close to the end of Dracula as well. My very dear friend Jenna bought me a magnetic bookmark, and as I was playing with it I discovered I could turn it into a heart. Perfect photo opportunity! DSCN5755 Any little (or big) accomplishments in your life lately? Sometimes we forget to celebrate the small victories in life. <3 Cass

The sock bun!

I have been searching for new hairstyles and had heard of the sock bun but my hair was too layered to make it look good, until now! I toughed it out and went for it and I LOVE the result! Effortlessly chic in a couple easy steps! (This video is where I first saw this method) DSCN5764 DSCN5768 I hope you try it! If you do let me know what worked for you! Maybe I'll share a couple more hair tricks I've dug up on the internet soon! <3 Cassie

Small Happiness

Hello! Almost done with the semester so hopefully that means more and more posts! This first picture is of my wedding magazines and the start (of what I hope to be) my veil! Its an experiment but I'm trying not to go broke tying the knot so I will be hand making a lot of details in this wedding. DSCN5746 Also I have started a new journal today. One of my teachers, who is just amazing, always tells us, "what you don't know about yourself will rule you". I've been feeling quite overwhelmed lately, my room has been a disaster, I'm always working on homework last minute, and my diet is continually changing along with my weight (and usually not in a favorable direction). So I decided I would try to get to know myself and figure out what my stumbling blocks are. DSCN5753 My first revelation has been, if it can't be done perfectly, fully, or give me instant gratification; I give up. I have no patience! No patience= no production for me! My first order of business was to create a game out of cleaning for 10 minutes. Then after I praised myself for my work and forgave myself for not having it all the way done. Lets see if this method works! I hope all your lives are going well! Leave a comment! <3 Cassie

Sneak Peak

A couple projects I'm working on. The first is a warm, cozy hat using chunky yarn and the second is for a little boy that I watch now and again. I'm going for a seventies themed color scheme and I'm excited to start on this hat for him using those colors!

A wonderful weekend.

Guess who finally got to go to The Boiling Crab? We had tried on Friday, but the place was packed so we went to a different location on Sunday and got served right away. Needless to say, the boyfriend was happy. =)

Also I spent the weekend watching The Lord of the Rings.. again. I'm keeping track of how many times I watch it so I can give others evidence about how crazy I really am. These are a few of my favorite scenes. (but really they are all my favorite)

So I haven't really mastered a good way to take pictures of my outfits so I apologize for the messy room. This is what I wore on Tuesday. My new hat, jeans from Forever 21, boots from Target, leather jacket from American Vintage, and T-shirt thrifted.

Winter Camp and My Newest Creation

My floppiest, warmest, most simple and casual hat yet, in a royal blue. I LOVE it. I added a pom pom to the back to and its perfect in my eyes. Its so cozy and the color makes any outfit just a bit more exciting. Should it go in the August collection? Let me know in the comments below.

And a few more pics of the weekend... The last few are of the outfit I wore Saturday which a got a handful of compliments on. I was pretty elated. =))

Sorry about the really blurry one, its the only one I could get of the whole outfit and to be honest I kind of love the way it looks. My outfit was a long black sleeve shirt and black tights and black boots with a coral pleated skirt. I wore my black leather jacket with it to face the cold.

There are a few more pics but I'm pretty tired because Wednesdays are super busy. I am experimenting with my very first DIY but I have to see how the pictures come out before I get too crazy... Also just got a BUNCH of yarn from a friend so I'm thinking a give-away? Let me know what you think!

Meet my new friends...

I was having a bad night on Sunday and Matt asked what would cheer me up. I asked him if we could get a cactus. And without even hesitating he said SURE! hah I love the whole Southwestern vibe right now and I thought a little baby cactus would be great, we got 2! Meet my new friends Sharky and Goldberry. (Yes they have names, and yes those names are from LOTR)

I'm a cookin fool!

I've been trying my best to gain some cooking skills to get to my goal weight and be nice and healthy along the way. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a sucker for fast food and soda but I don't crave it as much now that I'm learning how fun it is to cook!
So here is a quick recipe for a quick low calorie snack or lunch that I made up! Your ingrediants are 1 tbsp of olive oil, 10-12 green beans, a clove of garlic (garlic salt works too), and salt and pepper.
Photobucket

So first you pour some olive oil into a hot frying pan (medium is usually a good heat). I don't really measure the olive oil, but its pretty caloric so I try to eyeball about a tbsp.
Photobucket

Then you chop up your garlic and throw that into your pan. (warning, this will make your entire house smell delicious) shake the pan a bit to move the oil and garlic around.

Then throw in your green beans. You probably want to just run them under water real quick for cleanliness before that.. but you just let them cook! They will start to get a little wrinkly which is when they really soak in the flavor, adding salt and a bit of pepper helps (in my opinion).
Photobucket

You can shake the pan or use a spatula to move them around and try to get them to cook even. The whole process takes maybe 10 minutes from prep to finish. Put on plate and eat! TADA. The finished product comes out to about 200 calories. Yum.
Photobucket

Also, My boyfriend and I totally made dinner together the other night. And it was AWESOME. We made cheesy spinach dip and that cucumber juice from my last post. SO yummy. We were so proud!

Both recipes I found on Punchfork so check it out! what have you made this week?
